How to Choose Office Wall Art

In a Home Office: Calm in Front, Character Behind

The wall you face while working should give your eyes somewhere quiet to land between tasks. Soft gradient posters and minimalist prints in blues, beiges and greens do that without pulling your attention away from the screen. Keep the bolder pieces for the wall behind you or beside the door: Hiroshige's woodblock streets reimagined with computers and androids in our Japan Retro Tech series, a Van Gogh self-portrait or Edward Hopper's Chop Suey give the room personality without competing with your work.

The Wall Behind You on Video Calls

Your camera sees that wall more than you do. Choose an image with a clear shape that stays readable when it is small and slightly blurred: a Bauhaus graphic, a brutalist building, a single circle or sun. Hang it a little to one side of where your head appears rather than directly behind it, and pick a medium size, 40 x 50 cm (16 x 20 in) or 50 x 70 cm (20 x 28 in), so it fills the background without crowding it. Skip prints with small text: nobody can read it on screen.

Words to Work By

Some posters here carry a line worth reading twice on a long day: Nietzsche's "Willing liberates", Rimbaud's "It has been found again. What? Eternity", or a plain "Mindset is everything". Our motivational posters and literature and poetry posters offer more of these, for a desk wall, a reading corner or a meeting room.

Which Poster Size for an Office?

• Above a desk: one 50 x 70 cm (20 x 28 in) poster, or two 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 in) prints side by side. Leave 20 to 25 cm (8 to 10 in) between the desk and the bottom of the frame.
• Small wall or shelf: a 21 x 30 cm (8 x 12 in) or 30 x 40 cm (12 x 16 in) print, hung or simply leaning.
• Meeting room or reception: one large 70 x 100 cm (28 x 39 in) poster, with its centre around 145 cm (57 in) from the floor.
• Corridor or open-plan office: a series of three to five prints in the same size and the same frame.

For Professional Spaces

Agencies, clinics, co-working spaces and shared offices often need several prints that look like they belong together. Choose one frame finish for the whole space, black metal for a crisp look or natural oak for warmth, and repeat one colour from your brand across the series. For dental practices we even have a poster made for the waiting room, A Smile Costs Less Than Electricity. Every order is printed on thick archival paper by the partner closest to you, and the framing itself is free: you only pay for the frame.
