Two rows of mature trees bend towards one another, meeting above the road like the vaulted nave of a church. At the far end, bathed in sunlight, the yellow façade of Schloss Kammer comes into view.
Klimt painted this avenue in 1912 on the shores of the Attersee, where he spent almost every summer with Emilie Flöge and her family. He often framed the scene with a small square of card or viewed it through opera glasses, and that way of looking shows in the painting: the trunks twist and knot, traced in long strokes of blue and violet, while the foliage forms a close mosaic of green. It is one of the Attersee works featured in our Klimt prints and posters.
The strong perspective draws you in, making the piece a natural fit for a hallway or the end of a corridor, whether in a London flat or a country home. Choose from several sizes, with or without a frame.
