Peeling paint, rust marks and a staircase past its best. This building has a story to tell.
Angular canopies jut out from the roofline, like the wings of some curious bird. Below, outside stairs and balconies have been patched up and repaired, with old paint still flaking from the concrete. Against the dark sky, their pale surfaces stand out.
There’s a particular beauty in this kind of wear. It shows how a building changes with age and use, and how people make it their own. A newly built structure simply wouldn’t have the same character.
It’s one of the more rugged images in our brutalist architecture wall art, alongside the graffiti-covered arcade and concrete ruins. It works well in a loft, workshop or urban-style living room, including the characterful spaces found in British cities.
The wide format and bold contrast give it plenty of presence on the wall. Available in several sizes.
Once admired, then rejected, and now rediscovered, brutalist buildings have had quite a journey. Explore brutalism’s decline and revival.
