The pond seen from above, with no edge. Small clusters of lily pads float at the top and bottom, and in between the water reflects the trees of the bank as long vertical shapes, green and gold, with a bright yellow patch where the sun breaks through.
In 1907 Monet began painting tall, upright views of his pond at Giverny, a format that let him show the reflections of the trees stretching down into the water. He would work on this idea for years, and the vertical canvases of 1907 are among the most luminous of the whole cycle.
Calm and golden, it suits a bedroom, a bathroom or a narrow wall. Combine it with a pink or grey version of the same year from our Monet prints and posters. Read our article on the water garden for the full story. Several sizes.
