A dark clump of trees on the left and its reflection form a single round shape, like a cloud of blue-green ink. The rest of the picture is mist, pale pink and pearl grey, where the far bank and its trees appear only as faint shadows. A bridge seems to cross in the distance, barely more solid than the air.
In the early 1890s Monet began getting up before dawn to paint the Seine near Giverny while the fog still covered it. These canvases led to his famous Mornings on the Seine series of 1896 to 1897. They are among the most poetic and silent works he ever made.
Soft and calming, it is a beautiful choice above a bed or in a bathroom. Find his other misty mornings in our Monet art prints, and read our article to see how the river shaped his life. Several sizes, framed or not.
