The bridge is seen from below, its massive pillars marching across the river towards the far bank. A train crosses at the top, trailing a long plume of white smoke, and the dark trees of the near bank frame the right side. The water is a calm, greyish blue.
Monet painted the railway bridge several times between 1873 and 1874. The low angle makes it look enormous, a monument of modern engineering in the middle of the countryside. It was the same railway that brought Parisians to Argenteuil at weekends.
Strong and industrial, it suits an office, a hallway or a loft. Our Monet art prints include the railway at Saint-Lazare and the little train at Jeufosse. For the story of Monet and modernity, read our article on Claude Monet. Several sizes.
