Fewer shapes, but larger ones. This Lagoon from Jazz uses just five: two deep blue forms curling like waves, a black shape stretching along the top, a small green one in the centre and a broad coral branch reaching towards the corner.
Matisse cut them from paper painted with gouache, and the brushwork is still visible in the coral. None of the shapes touch. They float against a pale grey background, with generous space between them, lending the print a calm, almost underwater sense of stillness.
We think this is the easiest of the three Lagoons to find a place for. The blue and black feel timeless, while the coral brings a touch of warmth. Ample empty space keeps the design from feeling busy. It comes in several sizes, framed or unframed, and suits a living room or bathroom in a UK home.
