The Houses of Parliament stand in a thick blue-grey fog, their towers just darker shapes in the mist. A touch of orange glows in the upper right corner where the sun tries to break through, and on the river, two small boats with dark figures drift in the murk.
Monet loved London fog, which he called the city's charm. He painted about twenty views of the Parliament between 1900 and 1904, finishing many of them at Giverny with the help of a photograph of the building. This version is one of the darkest and most mysterious.
Moody and atmospheric, it suits a study, a living room with deep walls or a bedroom. Our Claude Monet prints and posters include the Parliament at sunset and in blue light. Our article on Monet's London winters tells the story. Several sizes, framed or not.
