A year after painting the first Bedroom, the canvas was damaged by damp while Van Gogh was in hospital. Instead of simply restoring it, he painted the room again, this time from the asylum at Saint-Rémy, far from a home he would never return to.
The furniture is unchanged, yet the atmosphere has shifted. Violet tones creep across the walls, while green and pink streaks mark the floor. It feels less like a scene captured in a moment and more like a memory viewed from a distance.
If you know the 1888 version, this painting offers another chapter in the same story. We print it as a poster in several sizes, with or without a frame. Our Van Gogh wall art collection spans his years in Arles and Saint-Rémy, while this article on sunflowers, stars and the Yellow House traces the journey that brought him there, from the landscapes of southern France to the walls of homes across the UK.
