Stand at the foot of a spiral staircase, look straight up and the steps become a shell.
That is just what happens here. The underside of the stairs spreads out in pale, smooth sections, each a little lighter than the one before, then coils into a dark eye at the centre. The frame around it is almost entirely black. There’s no handrail, no one in sight and nothing to reveal what sort of building you’re in. Just one bright curve.
Of all the designs in our brutalist poster collection, this is perhaps the most graphic. Seen from across a room, it might be a nautilus shell or a minimalist print. Take a closer look and you’ll spot the joins between the concrete slabs and the gentle gradation of light.
- Bold contrast that suits white, grey or dark walls
- A landscape format that works above a sofa or bed
- Available in several sizes, with or without a frame
Concrete staircases like this were a hallmark of the movement. Find out how brutalism began and why it’s making a comeback.
