Dark brown rocks fill the right and lower parts of the picture, rough and massive. Beyond them, the Atlantic stretches to the horizon, glittering silver and lilac under a pale evening sky, with a single rock islet standing out on the water.
Monet painted this view during his stay on Belle-Île in the autumn of 1886. He wrote to Alice Hoschedé that the sea there was terrifying and magnificent. Here, though, it is calm, and the contrast between the heavy rocks and the luminous water is what interests him.
Strong and serene, its tall format suits a hallway, an office or a seaside home. Our Claude Monet prints and posters include Port-Domois and Port-Goulphar from the same trip. Our article on Monet tells the story of this Breton stay. Several sizes, framed or unframed.
