A woman with a blue parasol and a child walk down a hillside through tall grass dotted with red poppies. Higher up, another woman and child follow the same path, and at the top a line of trees and a red-roofed house close the view under a sky of white clouds.
This is the famous Coquelicots, painted near Argenteuil in 1873 and shown at the first Impressionist exhibition the following year. The figures are probably Camille and their son Jean, painted twice to suggest their walk. The poppies, bigger than they should be, are simple dabs of red. The canvas belongs to the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
Iconic and summery, it is a perfect print for a living room, a bedroom or a kitchen. You will find other poppy fields among our Claude Monet prints and posters. Read our article on Monet's Argenteuil years. Several sizes, framed or unframed.
