The marble façade of the Palazzo Dario rises straight out of the Grand Canal, its round medallions and arched windows shimmering in lilac and grey. A black gondola glides past at its foot, and the water below is a mosaic of jade green and pale blue.
Monet only went to Venice once, in the autumn of 1908, with his wife Alice. He was reluctant at first, then fell for the city and painted some thirty-seven views, finishing them in Giverny. The Palazzo Dario, with its slightly leaning Renaissance front, was one of his favourite subjects.
Elegant and dreamy, it suits a living room, an office or an entrance. Find his other Venetian views in our Monet prints and posters, and read our article on Claude Monet to know more about this late journey. Several sizes, framed or not.
