A rounded headland fills most of the picture, its slopes covered in a soft fleece of pink, lilac and green. On the right it drops steeply into a sea that is little more than a pale glow. There is almost no detail, just colour and the curve of the land.
The Pointe du Petit Ailly lies near Varengeville, west of Dieppe. Monet first painted it in 1882 and returned in 1897, when he made a series of these cliffs at different hours. His touch had become finer and more uniform, like a woven texture.
Soft and very contemporary in feel, it suits a bedroom, a bathroom or a minimalist living room. Our Claude Monet art prints include the Normandy cliffs from both campaigns. For more about these returns to the coast, read our article on Monet. Several sizes.
