Interior at Nice (c. 1919) by Henri Matisse - Poster

A peaceful room opens out to the Mediterranean. Sheer curtains draw apart, a palm rises in the distance and a seated figure rests beside a blue door. Coral tones ground the scene, while cool blues and greys fill the space above. This poster reflects the gentle drama Matisse cherished in his Nice interiors, where pattern, colour and daylight bring everything into balance. You can almost sense a breeze passing through the lace. No journey to the Riviera required.

Henri Matisse paired bold colour with pared-back forms, allowing shapes to speak for themselves. To create a wall display that celebrates this approach, browse our wider collection of Matisse posters and art prints and bring together pieces with complementary palettes.

• Palette: coral red, sea blue, linen grey, soft lilac and leafy green.
• Atmosphere: morning light, a quiet interior and life unfolding beyond the balcony.
• Styling notes: team it with light wood, woven textures, a striped throw or a small teal vase to pick up the bouquet. It sits just as naturally in a UK home.
