A single stack of grain sits in the middle of an empty field, and the whole world around it glows orange and pink. The sun is hidden in the mist, but it is everywhere: on the ground, in the air, on the edges of the stack, which turns violet in its own shadow.
From the autumn of 1890 Monet painted the grainstacks in the field next to his house at Giverny, at every hour and in every weather, working on several canvases at once and switching as the light changed. This version, now in the Minneapolis Institute of Art, is one of the most radiant. Its wide format is printed with a light border to keep the whole composition.
Warm and meditative, it is a beautiful piece for a living room or a bedroom. Find more grainstacks among our Claude Monet prints and posters, and read how the series made him famous.
