A couple hold each other close. The man is seen from behind, wearing a long robe patterned with eyes and rectangles, while his arms almost completely conceal the woman. Her face appears above his shoulder, eyes shut. Golden spirals curl around them.
This is Fulfilment, one of the panels from the Stoclet Frieze. Klimt created it around 1910–1911 as a full-scale preparatory drawing for the dining room of the Palais Stoclet in Brussels. The frieze was later made in marble, enamel, glass and gold mosaic. Its spirals represent the branches of the Tree of Life, which extends across the entire frieze.
Think of it as a more graphic, more ornamental relation of The Kiss. It makes a thoughtful gift for a couple and sits naturally in a bedroom, whether in a London flat or a country home. Choose from several sizes, with or without a frame. See how the two compare in our collection of Klimt posters.
