A road, a white fence and a handful of palm trees in the distance. Beside them stands a dark, unfinished silhouette.
The building follows the roadside, its exposed floors and vacant frames suggesting a ruin, or a scheme abandoned before it was finished. The sky is pale and bleached, lending the concrete an almost black appearance. There’s no one in sight.
It has a cinematic quality, like the first scene in a road film. The contrast between an everyday setting, with its road and pavement, and the strange, weighty structure beside it gives the image its tension.
One of the more enigmatic images in our brutalist architecture poster collection, it pairs a vertical layout with plenty of sky. The result feels calm and spacious, despite the subject. It would sit comfortably in a British hallway, bedroom or home office.
The poster is available in several sizes.
Brutalist buildings across the world have been abandoned or left unfinished, while some have since been saved. Find out how they made an unexpected return.
