A big bunch of sunflowers bursts out of a small blue-and-white vase, the heads turning in all directions, some fully open, some drooping. The table is covered with a red cloth, and the wall behind is a soft grey-mauve that makes the yellow sing.
Monet painted it at Vétheuil in 1881, from flowers grown in his own garden, and showed it the following year at the seventh Impressionist exhibition. It now belongs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Seven years before Van Gogh's famous series, the subject already had a painter's eye on it.
A cheerful choice for a kitchen, a dining room or an entrance. Our Monet art prints include other bouquets and still lifes, and our article on the painter tells how gardens slowly took over his life. Available in several sizes.
