The mistral seems to be sweeping through the scene. You can almost feel it in the olive trees, their trunks winding like ropes beneath dark blue crowns that appear to whirl. Even the sky is in motion, churned up in dense strokes of grey and white.
Below, broad bands of yellow, orange and pale blue bring a sense of balance to the composition. Red flowers punctuate the foreground, while a thin white line runs low beneath the trees in the distance. Van Gogh was at the peak of his powers in 1889, and this sense of restless movement is characteristic of the work he produced at Saint-Rémy.
A striking option for a living room or office with bold furniture, whether in a London flat or a country home. Our poster is available in several sizes.
