During his time in Paris, he returned to worn footwear in several paintings. He bought boots second-hand and, according to some accounts, walked through muddy streets in them before painting. Here, the leather is cracked and creased, its russet and ochre tones warmed by time. In the corner, the signature reads Vincent 87. These boots have travelled far, and it shows.
