Brutalist architecture makes bold use of simple forms.

In the distance, a rounded tower with ribbed walls reaches upwards. In front, broad rectangular shapes jut out at varying levels. Some are lined with windows; others are solid expanses of bare concrete. Low sunlight strikes from the side, leaving one half of each structure bright and the other in deep shadow. Clouds gather behind them.

It has the feel of a construction made from wooden blocks, but on a monumental scale. The composition reveals a more playful character in a style often seen as overly serious.

Hang this print in a contemporary sitting room, home office or teenager’s bedroom. Its portrait layout and strong contrast stand out across the room, whether in a London flat or a family home elsewhere in the UK. Several sizes are available.

Buildings with similar forms once appeared on campuses and around civic centres.
